# Standby

> Deposit management for multifamily. Residents move in without an upfront deposit; operators are covered up to the full deposit and can draw on it at move-out. Free for the property. Live in all 50 US states.

## What Standby is

- A deposit certificate: the resident pays a monthly fee instead of a cash deposit. Standby guarantees the operator up to the full deposit amount. It is not insurance and there is no claims process.
- Cash deposits: for residents who prefer cash, Standby handles the deposit under the lease and state rules. Standby is not a bank and not an insurer.
- Both paths produce the same certificate and the same draw at move-out, so an operator can run one process across a portfolio.

## How it works (resident)

1. The building sends a link by text and email.
2. The resident verifies identity; a soft credit check runs (no score impact). Takes about three minutes.
3. The resident chooses a small fee or a cash deposit.
4. A certificate issues before move-in.

## How it works (operator)

- Standby integrates directly with your property management system and posts directly to the ledger. Invites can also go out from the Standby dashboard, the REST API, or an AI assistant over MCP.
- Coverage up to the full deposit from day one. No claims form, no adjuster. At move-out, request a draw and the money is paid to your operating account.
- Standby collects from the resident afterwards. The resident only repays what they owe.
- Standby costs the property nothing.
- State caps, return deadlines and interest rules are handled by the platform.
